March 2012 - November 2012

Maas Aviation, a specialist painting company (www.maasaviation.com) won a tender selection process in August 2011 to design construct and operate a single aisle paint shop in the Airbus manufacturing facility at Hamburg. The Hangar is suitable for painting all airbus single aisle aircraft (A318 to A321 with sharklets and NEO). It complies with European and German regulations, and in particular complies with environmental emissions.

We designed the concept layout and then selected euroterra to be our partners in Hamburg. euroterra prepared the planning permission – BimSchG, and followed the process through to the commissioning. They also provide the on site eye and ears during construction. For various reasons, particularly cost, the project was carried out entirely in the German language. While this causes issues between us and the contractors, it made for a smooth running of the site.

The project was constructed by a joint venture between Willy Johannes Stahlbau and YIT Germany. Construction started in March 2012 and was completed in November 2012. The first aircraft entered the hangar on the 10th December 2012.
